Data is everywhere. You can find it in almost anything. With this project, I wanted to show that data doesn’t just reveal information, it can also create something visually beautiful, no matter what the subject is.
I started with two handfuls of pencils pulled from a jar. From there, I mapped out their different characteristics: from the intensity of their pigment to the shape of their tip. The result is a two-part piece that tells different stories about these pencils. It may not be the deepest study, but it leads to a surprising outcome, one that I hope to make people stop for a moment.
